Barb’s Legacy

Barbara Chvilicek started her poolside experience when her daughters joined the Chester Lion’s Swim Team in 1977.  She spent her summer weekends traveling Western Montana to attend swim meets.  Barbara continued to do this until 1985 when her daughters finished up their nine years of competitive swimming.

Never being a swimmer herself, she devoted a lot of time and effort in raising money through the Chester Lionette’s Club, and their Community calendar fund that supported the existing community pool.

Before passing away from Cancer in April 2000, Barbara requested that her memorials be donated to the New Pool.  At that time she was unaware that the swimming tradition would continue in the family as two of her granddaughters would begin swimming competitively.  One is swimming for the Helena Lion’s Swim Team, and the other swims for the Chester Lion’s Swim Team.

Barbara was never able to see an idea come to fruition that one of her daughters suggested as a fundraiser for the New Pool.  She had brought the idea back to Chester from Pahrump, Nevada.  The Quarter Auction, which has been held 3 times in Chester, has raised $12,400 to date for the New Pool, in an effort spearheaded by the Chester Lionette’s Club.
