The pool has been a real asset to the community for young and old alike. With a new pool, exercise and good health could be emphasized with more classes for a longer season. Also, swim team could participate in a longer season bringing meets to our town.

I am writing to ask for your support for the Chester "New Pool Project". The people in this farming area have been working very hard to secure funds for this project. They have secured grant funding and have had many fund raising activities. We need this new pool, because the old one will soon be closed. The pool is a center of activity for all of the communities. We appreciate your help.

Growing up in a small town in Eastern Oregon, the pool there was such an important part of our lives, because we learned to swim and had fun together. I know that Chester has long needed a new pool to replace the old one, and this is an excellent project, because of the number of kids who use it and benefit from it. Of course, all of us can.

As a member of the Chester swim team, I ask that you please consider donating the money that we ask for, it would be a great help to our community. Thank you

Chester has been struggling for years with a pool that has many problems, yet they manage to field a swim team with fantastic swimmers. Imagine what they could do with a new pool and the ability to make money for the team by hosting a swim meet!! Any help that you might be able to give this wonderful community would be greatly appreciated!!!!

As a mother of two small boys I have seen the entertainment that this pool as brought to them and to us as a family. With a new pool we as a community may continue to enjoy adult lap swim, water aerobics, swim lessons and swim team meets and practices. I would also like to see the availability of MS and arthritic classes. We could offer a lot with a new pool. This would be a great gift to us.

We strongly support the vision of a new pool to keep the option of allowing our community members and their visitors happily and healthily entertained.

We support efforts to enable kids to have something to do in Chester, MT. Grandchildren (nephews) enjoy being able to swim when they visit.

I HAVE BEEN PART OF THE MONTANA SWIMMING FEDERATION SINCE 1991. THE CHESTER LIONS SWIM TEAM HAS ALWAYS COMPETED AGAINST US EVEN THOUGH THEIR POOL HAS BEEN IN POOR SHAPE OR NON EXISTENT. I CAN NOT THINK OF A MORE WORTHY CAUSE FOR YOU TO GIVE A GRANT TOWARD.

Chester and the surrounding areas are a very tight and close community. The need for a pool in our area is vital for our kids. We don't have the luxury of "big" town activities, so the kids here really rely on the pool for their summer activities. Your consideration in helping us would be greatly appreciated.

Just as water is the life-blood of a society, so is the pool to our community. This oasis is a gathering place for young and old during the hot, dusty summers. The hours of fund-raising over the years mirror the dedication of the community to the project. Please help us to make this dream become a reality.

on November 19, 2006

Chester is a community of dedicated, hard-working people who value healthy lifestyles for children. Your support of the community pool project would help us toward this important goal and help ensure healthy summer activity for one of our most treasured resources... our children! Thank you!

I heartily encourage your support of the Chester community swimming pool. Community support and mentoring are two of the strongest things that help keep children and young adults away from drugs and alcohol use. A new community pool will provide the infrastructure needed by several programs that ultimately mentor children and young adults.

Thank you, General Mills, for your commitment to assist communities like Chester, MT with special needs. Every child should know how to swim. The people of this community have lovingly tended the existing pool to keep it going. A new pool in Chester is the only option for this hometown to continue a legacy of water safety. Your generous donation will make all the difference to this town. Thank you!

As a volunteer EMS responder I am grateful for the years we have had with our local pool. We have been fortunate our local kids have had the opportunity to learn water safety.

on November 18, 2006

Our old pool takes so much work and money every year to even see if it can hold together one more year. We are really to the point of needing a pool. It is used for so many things like swim lessons, swim team, adult ed, open swim, sports practices, EMS training, it is a huge part of our community and the money would be so greatly appreciated!!! Thank You.

As an EMT, I am fearful at the
thought of the pool closing and
resulting in many more trips to
the lake (18 miles away) to respond to water related emergencies. Thank You

This money would be good so we could have a regulation sized pool for swim meets and could actually host a meet. It would also save the people who spend so much time trying to get the pool even up and running each year. Please consider us! Thanks

As a new member and father in the community, I would like to encourage you to consider this project. The pool is a place where I am planning to teach my daughter to swim, but without help there may be no pool here. Please consider this project, thank you.

Everyone deserves the chance to learn to swim in a safe, controlled environment. Please help us continue our mandate to teach all who desire to learn how to swim, from Water babies to ladies aerobics.
Unfortunately, the old, dilapidated pool does not allow for frontal access or handicap access, which makes use by older and less ambulatory folk difficult.
Thank you

On behalf of Liberty County's Emergency Services, I ask that you please consider this request for a donation to our new swimming pool. No one can put a value on the number of lives that have undoubtedly been saved through swimming lessons and water safety instructions provided to our youth at our community pool. Our current pool has reached the point of no return. Thank you for your consideration.

on November 17, 2006

Everyone of every age needs a safe place to learn to swim. Chester is very close to Tiber Reservoir and the Marias River. Before the old pool was built, Liberty County had approximately 40 deaths due to drowning. After the pool was built, we have had only one drowning death.
The pool is beyond the benefits of duct tape maintenance.
Please help us help the community.

Thank you Hamburger Helper for supporting small town projects. It is greatly appreciated especially with our tight economy. A new pool is so needed in our community and would be a wonderful need met for kids of all ages. Thank You!

I grew up in Chester and remember with fond memories the time I and my brothers spent at the pool in the summer. We all took swimming lessons, swam each day and were involved in the swim team. When you have family or friends visiting it is wonderful to be able to go to the pool. The kids swim and the parents visit and listening to the kids laughing is an absolute joy.

I commute daily to Chester and the pool is a vital part of their community.

Elizabeth Woods
on November 14, 2006

Every spring the local county attorney gets out his work clothes, "re-fiberglasses" the pool, finds a part for an aging heat pump, and tries to "limp" our pool along for another season. He is one of many people in this rural community working to keep a pool here. Parts are harder to come by, and the lining can be repaired so many times before it is futile. Your donation will be a huge gift to us.

I have five children who take swim lessons at the Chester pool and swim competitively, although we live on the farm 14 miles from town in the summer. The pool is VITAL to our community. We have no other community recreation in town, no malls, movie theaters, youth center, etc. Since our community does not have a daycare, the swimming pool is the only supervised summer activity available.

on November 14, 2006

We are a farm family that live 20 miles from the pool in Chester. We farm, work, and recreate on the lake that borders our farm. We have 3 young children that are in the process of learning to swim at Chester. It is very important to the children and the community that we all learn water safety.

on November 13, 2006

The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce supports this worthy project. Not only is this new pool essential to the children and families of this area---it is also vital to the economic development. Having the new pool would allow us to host swim meets--thus benefiting our local businesses.

My daughter Magen died of cancer at the age of 16 in 1997. Swimming was her passion. Memorials were requested for the new pool fund. This money along with other memorials and contributions were the seed that began this vision. The kids of this rural community need this service for safety and recreation. And perhaps one of them has a passion similar to Magen's. Please help us make her wish come true.

We have been fortunate to have a pool in our community for years, but due to the age and condition of this pool, it has reached the end of its feasibility. I feel it is important to the children of our community to learn to swim and it gives the youth and adults a great place for exercise and entertainment.

Annie Wickum
on November 13, 2006

Having a swimming pool in our small rural Montana community is so important to young and old alike. This is one of the main summer activities for the youth of our community. It would be very hard to replace this wonderful and safe social place for our children if are pool closed. There is high percentage of children in the community using our pool. Thank you for considering our request.

Please provide any help you may to a town that has worked very diligently on the swimming pool project that would provide a large boost to a failing economy. This project will help people in a large area. I was on the Swim Team for a number of years and it is a shame that the pool has failed as much as it has. This project is important PLEASE, PLEASE HELP US OUT.

We don't have malls or skate parks for our kids to hang out at. What we have is a swimming pool which is 50 years old. Our small town kids really appreciate having this recreation site. What they don't understand is the safety issues related to such an aged pool. Our children and adults deserve a pool, which is safe for all. Please be an asset to this community with your generous contribution.

Providing healthy choices for our rural community is a focus in our school curriculum. Without a properly functioning community pool, Chester cannot offer a healthy choice for summer recreation. A new pool would provide students an opportunity to swim during PE classes and learn water safety. A new pool would provide jobs for many in a rural community that lacks opportunities. Please consider us!

Shirley Peck

The designated spot for the new pool is within 1/2 city block from the Sweet Grass Lodge, an independent living facility of 40 apartments for senior adults. It would be a short walk over to enjoy a swim or to join in aquatic exercises. The pool would be a tremendous resource for this community both for the young and the not-so-young. Thank you for considering our request.

We are a small community committed to providing family activities that are safe, fun and healthy. Our current pool is closing due to age and determination. A new regulation size pool would not only benefit those that swim, but the community businesses by bringing in swim meets. Again we are a small community with limited resources. This support would be appreciated greatly by all.

Please support this request for the health and welfare of the Hi-Line communities. Our existing pool is the center focus for both youth and adults. Construction of a new pool has been a long time over due. The equal opportunity to provide swim lessons for everyone is a major safety health issue needed in this rural area. We have worked hard at fundraising and would greatly appreciate the boost!

A new pool in Chester is vital to the survival of our small remote town. Our old pool is about non-operational at this time. Swimming is one of the few activities where the young, old, families, and visitors all come together. The health of our small town is directly linked to being able to continue to offer the swimming pool to everyone. Please support this very important project.

on November 09, 2006

A new pool is a necessity for this small rural community. The pool not only provides the children of the area with a place to socialize with friends during the summer, but promotes swimming as a life-long skill. People of ALL ages would benefit from a new pool.

on November 09, 2006

This gracious, hard-working community has pursued the goal of a new swimming pool with a rare tenacity. I've seen the awesome socio-economic rewards of a regulation pool in other towns. Businesses benefit from people coming for two-day swim meets and kids have tons of fun! Please support this great project!

I remember swimming in the Chester pool when I was growing up and it was always something we looked forward to in the summer. Having two kids of my own now and having moved back to Chester, it would be a huge disappointment to them if the pool was no longer in use. I would like them to capture memories of their own as I did when I was growing up.

on November 08, 2006

The benefit in terms of safety, exercise and social activities for all ages is crucial. Another very important aspect: economic development and sheer survival of the town. Look up Chester on a map-we are way the heck out here. Anything to attract and maintain businesses and families helps ensure the longevity and vitality of the town. The pool is the hub of activity in the summer months.

Having lived here all my life, I have seen the importance of having a swimming pool. Besides the recreation aspect, there is the positive impact of swimming lessons for young and old. Many people have been working diligently to come up with funds for a new pool and this grant would ultimately help a dream come true.

 Dana Lalum
on November 07, 2006

I personally took lessons at the local pool as did my three children. The pool provided a safe learning environment including social skills, competitive life skills, exercise, and friendships. Because we live in a remote community the pool is our main entertainment for both young and old. Water aerobics are provided for all ages as well.

on November 03, 2006

My family has lived in Chester since 1980. The pool was not in great shape then but all 4 of my sons took lessons and learned to swim at the Chester Pool. I hope that this service will be available for future generations.
Over the years a lot of hours have been donated by community members trying to raise the funding for building a new facility. I hope that this dream can become a reality.

 Barb Wolfe
on November 03, 2006

In our "very" rural community the need for kids to learn how to swim is essential. Since 1957 there has been very few drownings, prior to the pool there were 20 drownings in 10 years. Living 20 miles from a lake and river it is life saving to know how to swim. If our pool closes and we can not build a new one, it would be very costly to drive 40 miles to the nearest pool for lessons. Please help.

 Leslie Martin
on November 03, 2006

I would like to offer my support to the request for help in funding the new pool. The old pool is requiring a lot of maintenance and right now we have a person donating a lot of personal time to do it. I am not sure that anyone will ever agree to do than in the future. In a town this size a pool is really the only recreation for the kids and it was minimized the number to drownings in reservoirs.

Dawn Wickum
on November 02, 2006

A pool is tantamount to the survival of this community and the health and well being of our children. The education received through swimming lessons, the exercise and life skills gleaned from being on the swim team and the family "peace of mind" stemming from having a safe place for our children to socialize and play swim are 'priceless" to the well being of our family.

Rachel
on November 02, 2006

I swam competitively and for recreation in this 1957 model pool, and have been an active member of the committee searching for funding for this project. My children have taken swimming lessons, and one is a competitive swimmer as well. People constantly start asking in May when the pool will be open, and if we don't have one, our community is wondering what the children will do for entertainment.
